Iran–Iraq Earthquake 2017

My country Iran is one of the highest risk places for earthquakes in the world. Many of cities in Iran are under constant threat of having an earthquake. On the night of November 12, 2017, a powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit Kermanshah Province in western Iran near the Iranian-Iraqi border destroying more than 45000 thousand houses in 5 cities and over 100 villages and leaving more than 600 people dead and 15000 injured

I covered the aftermath of the earthquake area for 25 days, living in survivors’ tents and witnessing their life after in shock. This project is to pay respect to these people and to show the lives of these people who had such a huge experience of a 7.3 magnitude earthquake. Many lost one or all of their family members in a matter of seconds, and, on top of that, no longer had a place to call home. With this project I wanted to capture the aftermath of this unpredictable disaster, to illustrate the flow of life that continued uninterrupted after the earthquake despite all odds, and how these people began to rebuild their lives anew despite such hard times and with little means. It is a story of resilience, of people that despite all the injuries and damages found enough strength to move forward again and to build a new life
